Christine Stidham, Verona, Italy, 2024

Christine Stidham is a sculptor and metalsmith at the University of North Texas, pursuing a BFA in Studio Art. After a number of years working in corporate America, raising two children, running a small business, and finally returning to art and college in her fifties, Christine has developed a unique worldview that she incorporates into her sculpture and jewelry. A lifetime of navigating the joys and losses in life is reflected in her work which often explores topics of grief, loss, connection and autonomy.

During her time at UNT, she has had the opportunity to explore various materials and develop a curiosity for how they can add to the conversation that the artwork is joining. Her sculpture, The Dance, which is made of wood, copper, steel and encaustic wax, was selected for the 63rd Annual Voertman Exhibition at the Cora Stafford Gallery in Denton, TX in 2024. Another work that uses infrared technology as a medium will be exhibited in Electric!, at the Greater Denton Arts Council in Denton, TX, October, 2024. Christine continues to research and experiment with many materials such as wool, paper pulp, wood, light, various metals, and pottery.
